Once again, the time will change in Austria (and in most parts of Europe). The clocks will be set forward one hour tonight – then daylight saving time will apply.
In the night from Saturday (27. March) to Sunday (28. March), the clocks will be set one hour forward.
The changeover to daylight saving time 2021* has been taking place in the EU since 1996 always on the last Sunday in March (changeover to daylight saving time) and on the last Sunday in October (changeover to winter time/normal time).
But wasn’t the time change supposed to be abolished? In summer 2018, the EU Commission surveyed its citizens on the time change and published the clear result of the survey: the overwhelming majority (84%) of the 4.6 million participants voted in favor of abolishing the time change. As a result, the European Parliament also spoke out in favor of abolishing the time change after 2021. Since then, however, not much has happened: the EU member states must now determine which time will apply to them in the future.

However, the abolition of the time change is not as simple as it sounds. In the EU, you currently have one large time zone that stretches from Spain in the west to Poland in the east. If each country decided to have its own time zone, it would create a time patchwork within the EU. That is what they want to avoid. That’s why a public document from the Romanian presidency in June 2019 also said, “An EU-wide harmonized and coordinated approach is crucial to avoid time zone patchworks and ensure the smooth functioning of the EU single market.”
So far, there is no majority in favor of a time zone, because for some countries daylight saving time has advantages, while for others standard time is better. If the large time zone from Spain to Poland remains in place in the future, for some it will not be light until very late in the morning in winter, while for others the sun will rise in the middle of the night in summer.

Sun, March 28, 2021 clock is moved forward by 2 o’clock to 3 o’clock
So, 31 October 2021 clock is set back from 3 o’clock to 2 o’clock
