Today, Good Friday, 3,137 new Corona infections were registered in Austria. Across Austria, 9,397 people have died as a result of the viral illnesses.
The daily Corona new infections in Austria reported by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior continue to remain above the 3,000 mark with 3,137 new cases on Friday. The number of intensive care patients remained almost the same over the past 24 hours, rising by four to 535, while the total number of hospital patients fell slightly to 2,294 (as of 9:30 a.m.). However, on a weekly basis, the number of intensive care patients increased by more than 15 percent – and by 30 in Vienna.
Weekly average: high increase in intensive care patients
While hospital occupancy seems relatively stable in a 24-hour comparison, the weekly average for intensive care patients shows a high increase of 15.6 percent or 72 people within a week. A look at the eastern region, where a lockdown has again been in effect since yesterday, Thursday, demonstrates the east-west divide in infection incidence that is still prevalent at present: Vienna reports accordingly a plus with the intensive care patients of over 30 per cent in relation to last Friday, with 51 also over two thirds of the patients are allotted to the Federal Capital. Only in Lower Austria was the development with more than 19 percent almost similar, in Burgenland, however, the number of intensive care patients remained almost the same.
Total hospital occupancy rose by 6.6 percent, or 143 people, to 2,294 within a week, but here it is not Vienna that is in first place with just over 11 percent, but Tyrol with 14.2 percent. Upper Austria is the third province with a double-digit increase, amounting to 13.7 percent.
Seven-day incidence down to 252
The 3,137 new infections within the past 24 hours are slightly below the weekly average of 3,200 daily, and the seven-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants fell slightly from 260 to 252. Lower Austria, with over 759 new infections within one day, was ahead of Vienna with 670, Upper Austria had 473 new infections, Styria 425, Tyrol 247, Salzburg 203, Carinthia 174, Burgenland 114 and Vorarlberg 72. In total, just over 281,000 PCR and rapid antigen tests were reported in the past 24 hours. Of these, 69,660 were conclusive PCR tests, and the positive rate was 4.5 percent.
29 more deaths linked to Covid-19
Twenty-nine additional deaths linked to Covid-19 disease bring the total since the outbreak of the pandemic to 9,397, with nearly 200 (197 to be exact) deaths in one week. 552,729 Corona infections have been reported to date, of which 506,675 have recovered, leaving 36,657 active cases, exactly 35,000 people laboring from SARS-CoV-2 infection a week ago.
Nearly 1.7 million Corona vaccinations have been administered to date. Over 1,233,000 people (13.7 percent of the total population) have been vaccinated to date, of which nearly 460,000 (5.2 percent) are fully immunized.
