A look at the eastern region, where a lockdown has again been in effect since yesterday, Thursday, demonstrates the east-west divide in infection incidence that is still prevalent at present: Vienna reports accordingly a plus with the intensive care patients of over 30 per cent in relation to last Friday, with 51 also over two thirds of the patients are allotted to the Federal Capital. Only in Lower Austria was the development with more than 19 percent almost similar, in Burgenland, however, the number of intensive care patients remained almost the same.

Total hospital occupancy rose by 6.6 percent, or 143 people, to 2,294 within a week, but here it is not Vienna that is in first place with just over 11 percent, but Tyrol with 14.2 percent. Upper Austria is the third province with a double-digit increase, amounting to 13.7 percent.

Seven-day incidence down to 252
The 3,137 new infections within the past 24 hours are slightly below the weekly average of 3,200 daily, and the seven-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants fell slightly from 260 to 252. Lower Austria, with over 759 new infections within one day, was ahead of Vienna with 670, Upper Austria had 473 new infections, Styria 425, Tyrol 247, Salzburg 203, Carinthia 174, Burgenland 114 and Vorarlberg 72. In total, just over 281,000 PCR and rapid antigen tests were reported in the past 24 hours. Of these, 69,660 were conclusive PCR tests, and the positive rate was 4.5 percent.
