On Easter Monday, ministries reported 2,217 new infections with the coronavirus and 33 new deaths. There ended up 89 patients newly hospitalized.
After a long wait for the latest infection figures, they are now available on Easter Monday. The state crisis team reports 2,217 additional positive findings since Easter Sunday – most of them in Vienna (551) and Lower Austria (543). The occupancy rate in hospitals increased by 89 patients – ten more infected persons are being treated in intensive care units than yesterday.
Since the last report, the new infections have been distributed among the provinces as follows:
➤ Burgenland: 67
➤ Carinthia: 125
➤ Lower Austria: 543
➤ Upper Austria: 394
Salzburg: 97
➤ Styria: 244
➤ Tyrol: 170
➤ Vorarlberg: 26
➤ Vienna: 551
The numbers of new daily infections in Austria were constant just above 3,000 cases during the Easter week. On Monday, 3,076 new cases were registered, more than on any previous Monday this year. On Tuesday, the three-thousand mark was also just exceeded, with 3,001 new cases. On Wednesday, authorities reported 3,687 new confirmed Corona cases, on Thursday 3,363 new cases and on Friday 3,137 new cases. On Holy Saturday, health authorities reported 3,283 new Corona infections and 37 deaths. On Easter Sunday, there were 2,743 new infections and 15 deaths.
Since Thursday, the Easter lockdown has been in effect in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. It is likely to remain in place in these three federal states, at least for the time being. The heads of intensive care medicine in the provinces have described the situation in their wards to the government. This is different, precarious is the situation only in the east. The government therefore wants to continue to focus on regional measures, and more money is to be made available for medical personnel.
For days, the figures have been rising both for new Corona infections and for patients in the domestic intensive care units. On Ö1’s “Morgenjournal,” an intensive care physician at the Floridsdorf Clinic, where up to 50 percent of Corona intensive care patients die, shook things up: Doctors “cry after a service because they can’t take any more,” “we are already reaching our limits.” And: The patients are getting younger and younger, the average age is 40 to 45 years.
