Starting next Monday, the same rules as before the strict curfew will apply again for Vienna’s schoolchildren. This was pointed out by the office of Education City Councilor Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) on Wednesday. In Vienna, the current Corona lockdown does not end until May 2, but the stricter measures in the school sector will be rolled back a week earlier.
Vienna’s pupils back at school
As a result, Vienna’s elementary schools and special schools are in full attendance mode, while the middle schools, the lower grades of the Allgemeinbildende Höhere Schulen (AHS) and the polytechnic schools resume shift operations. The first group is in school on Monday and Tuesday, the second on Wednesday and Thursday. AHS Upper Schools, Vocational Schools, Vocational Middle Schools and Upper Secondary Schools as well as the 5th to 8th grades of Special Education Schools will also resume shift operations, but here a certain flexibility in the concrete arrangement is possible at the schools themselves, it was emphasized.
Education City Councilor Christoph Wiederkehr told the Austrian Press. Agency: “I am very pleased that the Viennese schools will open their doors already one week before the end of the lockdown currently in force in Vienna. We are returning to an already familiar system of attendance at elementary schools and shift operation in lower and upper grades. The goal, of course, is to return all Viennese schools to full attendance mode as quickly as possible. A prerequisite for this, however, is that the incidence of infections continues to decline. With a comprehensive testing concept at Viennese schools, I am confident that we can succeed in this step in the course of May.”
