Today the Corona vaccinations start – with delay – also with the family doctors. According to the office of Health Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ), an initial 10,000 doses are available for this purpose this week. The vaccine from AstraZeneca will be used. The vaccination step in the practices was in itself planned earlier, but there was not enough vaccine available.

A total of 560 physicians in private practice will begin administering the vaccine for the first time in their clinics. This has already been possible for some time in the “vaccination boxes”. There, doctors can fix appointments with their patients. These are converted cold check boxes, where it was last possible to be tested when flu-like symptoms appeared. Now, 5,000 Corona vaccinations are processed weekly at these facilities.

Vienna decides on further procedure today, Tuesday
How it continues in Vienna regarding Corona measures, will be decided today, Tuesday. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) will consult with experts from the health sector in the morning and then announce whether the current hard lockdown will be ended as originally planned from May 2. Currently, stores and service providers are still closed in Vienna and Lower Austria – although Lower Austria has already announced that it will be allowed to reopen in a week’s time. Students have already returned to face-to-face classes in the two provinces.

Mayor Ludwig has recently adopted a wait-and-see attitude, emphasizing that an extension of the restrictive limits is not completely out of the question. Still completely open is the further procedure, i.e. how in Vienna with the openings promised by the federal government for 19 May one deals. Ludwig has already warned against “hasty” opening steps. Experts had pointed out, above all, that the opening of the different areas should not take place at the same time, so that the risk of contagion does not increase, he indicated. Whether this means, for example, that the indoor gastronomy will remain closed for longer, has not yet been decided, the city hall emphasizes.
