In Vienna, additional vaccination appointments for high-risk or at-risk groups, as well as for people with psychiatric illnesses, will be released today, Tuesday. The focus is currently on these groups, as well as older people born in 1956 or later, people with disabilities or contacts of pregnant women, the office of Health City Councilor Peter Hacker, announced as published by Austrian Press Agency. The vaccinations are administered at Corona vaccination centers.

For people who belong to the high-risk group – such as those affected with serious illnesses – only comparatively few appointments are scheduled. The reason for this is that there were hardly any new registrations recently, because sufficient appointments have already been completed here, it is said. In concrete terms, there are now another 3,000. In the case of high-risk patients, on the other hand, there were around 30,000 additional reservations. 2,000 dates were reserved again for persons with psychiatric suffering.

That’s because in early April, the National Immunization Panel also added patients in this group (with conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression, note) to its listing of prioritized groups. The city says it first surveyed the need here, after there was no central registry here that could be easily accessed, as they point out. Now, those affected could register via a specially created category. Around 1,500 people are already registered here.

In May, the first vaccinations should be completed, among others, for high-risk patients of all vaccine-eligible ages, relatives of those affected who live in the same household, high-risk patients or people with disabilities who do not live in institutions. City Hall is also hoping for increased vaccine supplies. Then, in addition to the general vaccination schedule, which descends by age, occupational groups could also come back into focus, the Hacker office explained.

In this context, the medical association recently called for more younger people to be vaccinated. This is a proposal that will have to be discussed seriously, according to the city. As early as March, all companies were contacted together with the Chamber of Commerce in order to divide their employees into five categories according to the degree of exposure – i.e. whether they have a lot of customer contact.
