585 new corona infections in Austria on Thursday

On Thursday, 585 new Corona infections were registered in Austria. It was the first time since October 26, 2020, that the number of Covid 19 patients in domestic intensive care units was below 200.

According to figures from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior (as of 9:30 a.m. Thursday), there were fewer than 200 Covid 19 patients in a domestic intensive care unit for the first time since Oct. 26 of the previous year. The exact number was 199. Meanwhile, the number of new infections was 585 in the past 24 hours, above the seven-day average of 507.

Vienna with seven-day incidence of 34.5
Seven-day incidence continued to rank below 40, at 39.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. By province, it was highest in Vorarlberg, at 82.6. Otherwise, only in Tyrol was it still above 50 (51.9). In Upper Austria, it was 48.2, in Styria 42, in Lower Austria 35 and in Vienna 34.5. Carinthia and Burgenland had incidences below 30 with 28.9 and 22.4, respectively, and Salzburg was even below 20 with 19.9.

In absolute numbers, the highest number of new infections occurred in Upper Austria with 124, followed by Lower Austria with 107 and Vienna with 101. Almost all other provinces were in double digits, from Styria with 77 to Vorarlberg with 70, Tyrol with 58, Carinthia with 29 and Burgenland with 16. Salzburg reported only three new infections.

Number of Corona patients in intensive care units decreases
As of Thursday, there were 6,336 active cases in Austria, 228 fewer than the previous day. Since the start of the pandemic, 626,259 people have recovered from infection with the corona virus in this country, with 806 added within the past 24 hours. Seven deaths occurred in the past 24 hours, for a seven-day average of 6.6 people per day statistically who died from or with covid 19 disease. In the past seven days, 46 deaths have been recorded. Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 10,573 lives in Austria since it began. Per 100,000 population, 118.8 people have died from or with Covid-19 since then.
