The seven-day incidence in Germany remains at a low level. However, it has been increasing again for days. Compared to the previous week, it has already increased by a third. The RKI recently reported 646 new corona infections – the number of deaths is slightly lower than the previous week.

The seven-day incidence has been rising every day for the past week. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), it climbed most recently to 6.5. Exactly one week earlier, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 4.9. Thus, the incidence increased by almost 33 percent within one week. At this rate, however, the incidence would not exceed 100 for another ten to eleven weeks.

Health departments in Germany reported 646 new Corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is according to figures reflecting the status of the RKI dashboard as of 4:06 am. By comparison, the RKI had reported 440 infections a week ago.

Across Germany, 26 deaths were recorded within 24 hours, according to the new data. A week ago, there had been 31 deaths. The RKI counted 3,737,135 proven infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic, but the actual total number is likely to be significantly higher because many infections are not detected. The RKI reported the number of people who recovered as 3,635,900. The number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 91,259.

According to RKI data, the reproduction number, which is crucial for the rate at which the coronavirus spreads, was 1.15 on Monday and has been above the value of 1 for about a week. The number means that 100 infected people mathematically infect 115 more people. If the value is persistently above 1, the number of cases increases. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the incidence of infection will slow down. The R value was previously well below 1 for around two months.
