Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) addresses Austrians on Facebook with an appeal in which he continues to urge caution.
On Friday, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz spoke on “ServusTV” about the current Corona situation in Austria and also dared to look into the future – with a gloomy forecast! Because according to the head of government, the corona virus will not disappear in the coming years, but will accompany us even longer.
“The virus will stay. It will still be there in one year, it will still be there in three years, it will still be there in five years,” Kurz is certain in “Servus Nachrichten.” But the 3G rule is a very “efficient measure” that prevents “the contagion figures from exploding immediately.
Kurz told “ServusTV”: “The 3G rule definitely helps us, and I don’t think it’s as big an encroachment on people’s liberties as if certain areas were completely closed.” Asked why such strict measures – PCR testing or vaccination – apply in nightclubs but not, say, at tent festivals, the chancellor replied:
“We are all in the same boat.
“It’s difficult to draw dividing lines. There are always areas that are related or similar and therefore want the same or similar treatment. On the other hand, you have to draw the dividing line somewhere. Now the question is: do you compare the tent festival more with a cultural event or with a discotheque? There are different ways of looking at that.
The people who would make these decisions would have to draw this dividing line. And this dividing line has now been drawn at the federal level, he said. “You can always discuss everything. But I also ask for understanding, I think we are all in the same boat,” Kurz said on “ServusTV.”
“Still have to be careful”
He continued, “We all have the goal that we can live normally, that we can finally enjoy again, that events, tourism, sports, gastronomy can be enjoyed again.” And to ensure that this remains the case, a safety net is needed.
