The city of Vienna is reducing the number of tests in the city and closing two test roads. As planned, the series of tests will end at Dusika Stadium and Schönbrunn Palace.

Dusika Stadium must close due to preliminary work for demolition, testing will continue until Friday evening. At Schönbrunn Palace, the usage contract is running ahead, so both the walk-in in the Orangery (Friday evening) and the drive-in at the bus parking lot (Friday noon) will close.

PCR tests in demand
In addition, the “Alles gurgelt” offer is very well accepted. Since its launch, there have been around 4.7 million tests, and in the previous week there were 265,000 PCR gargle tests. They also say the demand in the test lanes is not as high as it was initially. The previous week, utilization was 55 percent. Compared to the spring, only half as many antigen tests have been performed.

The Dusika Stadium on Vienna’s Handelskai will have to make way for the new multifunctional “Sport Arena Wien” by the end of 2023. Demolition is underway, currently the grandstand chairs are being dismantled.

As reasons for this, the city cites the rising vaccination rate and the increased demand for PCR tests, which are now mandatory when traveling or in night catering, for example. The city has already reacted to this development with more test boxes, and new locations are also being considered. The future probably belongs to the gargle boxes: They require fewer staff and less space, so they are probably also cheaper.
