Chancellor Sebastian Kurz launched his own “TikTok” account on Wednesday. With the help of the social media platform, which is particularly popular among young people, the 34-year-old wants to reach “young people” in particular and spread his messages.
“Right now it is immensely important to convince as many young people as possible of the Corona vaccination. TikTok offers the ideal opportunity to get into direct contact with young people and personally promote the vaccination,” says the chancellor.
And that’s what Austria’s head of government does right away in his first “TikTok” video, at the same time addressing his young audience with a plea. “In many European countries and also in Austria, the contagion figures are rising again. That was expected, but of course it’s still something that needs to be responded to,” Kurz explains.
And the “best reaction” to the rising infection figures “is vaccination. Vaccination works and vaccination protects,” the 34-year-old clarifies on “TikTok.” Already 80 percent of people over 65 in the country have already been vaccinated and are therefore protected against the coronavirus, he said.
“Especially among young people, however, there’s still a lot of room for improvement, and so my plea to you is: get vaccinated!” he said. And further: “Protect yourselves with it, but also make a contribution that we can all push back the virus together.”
