The incidence of infection has remained unchanged for weeks in Austria, with 70 percent of new infections affecting people under 35 and less than five percent affecting people over 65. “The vaccine works and protects against the virus and variants. It is up to each individual to take up the offer and get vaccinated. Especially the young people in the country, I ask, go and get your vaccination. The first half of the summer is over, we can enjoy freedoms and normality again over wide areas except for a few restrictions. If we want to continue this in the fall and winter, I appeal especially to the young people in the country: do not underestimate the virus, seven out of ten new infections affect you young. Please get vaccinated,” Chancellor Sebastian Kurz once again appealed to young people.
“Our ultimate goal must be to continue to increase the vaccination coverage rate. Therefore, I renew my urgent appeal: please get vaccinated and complete your vaccination protection. This appeal is especially directed at young people. The Covid19 vaccination is not only our only way out of the pandemic, it also provides more than 90 percent protection against infection – and thus also against Long Covid. This disease is not to be underestimated; it will still be very demanding on our healthcare system. 10 to 14 percent of those infected still suffer the sometimes life-altering consequences of corona disease months later – overwhelmingly women and younger people are affected. Don’t take any risks, get vaccinated,” Health Minister Mückstein also said.
Decisive for the further success in the fight against the pandemic is now above all a sufficient vaccination coverage of the young and the vaccination protection of the older and vulnerable groups. At present, the scientific data is not yet sufficiently conclusive to recommend a third vaccination in general – even before nine months have elapsed since the second sting. First of all, the necessary scientific evidence is needed to determine the further course of action in detail. There is sufficient vaccine available. So if the situation changes, it will be possible to start quickly, emphasize the chancellor and the health minister.
