From Tuesday to Wednesday, there were 902 new infections – as many as last three months ago. Politicians nevertheless see no reason for action.

On Monday 450, on Tuesday 601, yesterday 902 new infections: The fourth wave seems to have arrived. Also the numbers in the hospitals worry: There are now 197 Corona patients, 21 more than on Tuesday. In the intensive care units there are already 48 seriously ill (+8). The Ministry of Health is taking a wait-and-see approach, saying that the measures are being evaluated on an ongoing basis. If the epidemiological situation requires it, they would be “adapted if necessary”. In regions with high incidence, the states would take targeted steps. Meanwhile, the state health officers met yesterday. Results:

■ National Vaccination Commission to decide in three weeks whether to recommend third vaccination.

■ Exit test requirement in communities remains above incidence of 300.

■ States to decide on 2G rule for tent festivals.

■ New parameters for traffic lights, such as vaccination coverage rates in regions.

Today there is the next meeting of the Corona Commission. Minister Mückstein does not want to anticipate it. “It is clear to us that a fourth wave will come. How strong it will be depends on how many people get vaccinated in the coming weeks,” Minister Wolfgang Mückstein said as published by “heute.at”.
