In Vienna, the Corona vaccination is now also available in supermarkets: the Rewe Group offers at three locations to be immunized easily and quickly. The campaign kicked off on Wednesday at Millennium City.
The rush there in the morning was huge – but not because of numerous people wanting to be vaccinated, but because of the great media interest. “It has never been less complicated to get vaccinated in Vienna,” assured City Health Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) at the presentation. Marcel Haraszti, CEO of Rewe International AG, also emphasized: “It must be the common goal of all of us to contain the pandemic in the long term. The Corona vaccination is more necessary than ever in view of the coming autumn and rising infection figures.”

Vaccination in supermarkets is available at Billa Plus in Millennium City, Penny supermarket in Simmeringer Hauptstraße and Billa in Franz-Koci-Straße in Vienna-Favoriten. In Millennium City, the vaccination station is located directly at the entrance – where the special offers are usually presented. In Simmering, vaccinations are given in the store, and at Billa in Favoriten in a vaccination box in the parking lot.
150 vaccinations per day possible
Pre-registration is not necessary. The inoculation is not only free, but also not necessarily bound to a purchase, as is affirmed. Participants receive however in any case a beverage from the Billa or Penny assortment, it was said today. Per location per day up to 150 inoculations are possible. These are carried out in cooperation with rescue and aid organizations.

An ID and, if available, an e-card are to be brought along. For persons 18 years of age or older, the Johnson&Johnson vaccine is used; for persons 12 to 17 years of age, the Biontech/Pfizer vaccine is used. The latter can pick up their second vaccination – also without making an appointment – three weeks later at the Austria Center Wien or at another municipal vaccination center.
Rainer Trefelik, chairman of the Federal Trade Party in the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, referred to the importance of such low-threshold initiatives in a press release. Actions like those of Rewe or also in shopping centers in Vorarlberg are to be welcomed. In the sense of fighting the pandemic, these should also take place in other federal states, he recommended.
