The fourth wave is picking up steam much earlier than the second wave last fall. This is shown by a look at the statistics. Exactly one year ago, 181 new infections were reported within 24 hours; from Sunday to Monday, 1,120 new Corona infections were registered.
In addition, there is one new death to report in connection with a Covid 19 infection, so the pandemic has claimed 10,782 lives in Austria so far. The number of active cases increases by 28 to 15,105. The seven-day incidence is 106.43.
The rising numbers are also making themselves felt in hospitals: Austria’s hospitals currently have 453 people associated with covid disease, up 13 from the previous day. 122 patients are in intensive care – 10 more than the day before. More patients last required intensive care in early June.
In the past 24 hours, 37,226 PCR tests have been performed, with a positive rate of 3.01 percent.
