Earlier than planned, Corona booster vaccinations started in Vienna on Thursday.
The Liesinger nursing home St. Barbara of Caritas made the start. “Now that the preparations for the third vaccination against Covid-19 in Vienna have been completed, we will immediately begin to further immunize residents in Vienna’s nursing homes against the virus,” stressed Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ). From Friday, registrations are possible for all Viennese.
From (tomorrow) Friday, it is also possible to register online via impfservice.wien and by phone via 1450 for a third vaccination, the city said in the release. Third stings could also be set in the established area, in these cases, appointments are to be made directly with the ordinances. Employees in the health and care sector who have already received their second vaccination in January or in February/March can receive their booster in Vienna starting next Monday.
Hacker promises “there will be no vaccine shortage”
“By proceeding quickly, we can guarantee Viennese citizens, but especially all those at risk, that their protection against the virus will be maintained in the best possible way,” Ludwig explained. “There is a significant difference compared to the first and second vaccinations in the winter and spring of this year – there will no longer be a vaccine shortage,” assured City Health Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ).
Residents of Vienna’s more than 100 nursing homes will receive their third vaccination against Covid-19 during September and October. “We see in all our nursing homes: Vaccination means a return to more normality. It protects residents, it means safety for our employees and it relieves the burden on relatives,” explained Klaus Schwertner, Executive Director of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna.
