2,260 new infections Austria-wide on Saturday

In Austria, 2,260 new coronavirus infections were registered in 24 hours, above the previous seven-day average of 1,863, and up 500 from a week ago Saturday. The seven-day incidence rose to 146 cases per 100,000 population. An additional five Covid-related deaths were reported, up from 47 during the week.

The number of active cases, which passed the 20,000 mark yesterday, grew to 20,900. The number of intensive care patients decreased by five from yesterday to 178 people, according to figures from the Ministry of Interior and Health, and the increase in one week is 25 patients. A total of 690 people, up by 22 from yesterday, are currently hospitalized due to corona infection. Due to the five additional deaths, the seven-day average is 6.7; in total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 10,837 lives in Austria since the outbreak.

16,740 vaccinations were administered Friday, about 2,500 more than a week ago, but vaccinations have dropped again in the past seven days to 80,899 from 81,842 the previous week. Overall, 5,594,476 have already received at least partial vaccination (62.6 percent of the population), and 5,290,455, or 59.2 percent of Austrians, are fully immunized, according to E-vaccine passport data. The lowest rate of full immunization is found among 12- to 24-year-olds, at 44.9 percent; among the 85-plus group, it is almost twice as high, at 87.6 percent.The figures for vaccinations all refer to Friday.

Comparing the provinces, the differences in seven-day incidence rates remain high, with Vienna having the highest value at 220.5, followed by Upper Austria and Salzburg at 191.2, and 180, respectively. By a wide margin, Vorarlberg has the fourth highest value in Austria at 124, but is already below the average value of 146. It is further followed by Burgenland (115.5), Styria (104.1), Tyrol (100.8), Lower Austria (96.3) and Carinthia (72.8).
