The Klimaticket Ö allows you from 26 October to use all scheduled services (public and private rail and public transport in a specific area for a year: regional, cross-regional and nationwide.

For three euros a day, you can travel throughout Austria for a year on all forms of public transport – that’s the idea behind the climate ticket.

The price: Regularly it costs 1095 euros. Until October 31, early bookers get the ticket discounted at 949 euros. Young people and young adults under 26 years of age pay only 821 or – in October – 699 euros, as do seniors from 64 (from January 2022 from 65) and people with disabilities. For 110 euros more in each case one receives the family Card. Then up to four children from six and under 15 years may travel along, a family proof is not necessary.
Payment: The ticket can be purchased online at store.klimaticket.at or at the counters of participating partners such as ÖBB, WestBahn, regional transport associations, etc. Instead of paying the total amount all at once, the ticket can be purchased at any time. Instead of paying the total amount at once, one can also do so in monthly installments, paying two installments in advance.
Existing annual tickets: If you buy a climate ticket but already have an annual pass for a region or route, you can cancel it free of charge with your respective transport association and receive a pro rata refund for the remaining term. For many routes, the annual ticket is significantly more expensive than the new ticket (e.g. St. Pölten – Vienna, see table below). In such cases, Verkehrsverbund Ostregion automatically switches its customers to the climate ticket and transfers money back. Owners of ÖsterreichCards from ÖBB or annual tickets from Westbahn can also switch and, if necessary, receive the additional amount back. ÖBB advantage cards cannot be credited to the climate ticket!
Usage: With the climate ticket, one travels in 2nd class with ÖBB. If you want to travel 1st class, you would have to pay 1355 euros extra. Young people, seniors and people with disabilities would pay 1030 euros extra. On the Westbahn, climate ticket holders can sit in the middle Comfort Class – with a table and more legroom.
For dog or bicycle there is no general free entrainment possibility. However, this can vary depending on the transport association.

If you want to switch from the Wiener Linien annual pass to the climate ticket, you have to pay attention to the sequence and buy the climate ticket first before you cancel the annual pass. This is because the cancellation fee that is normally due is only waived if the invoice for the Climate Ticket is presented.

It is not possible to “upgrade” the annual pass: it must be cancelled in any case, Wiener Linien explain. The company cites the short-term implementation of the climate ticket as the reason: although the aim is to “make it easy for customers to switch”. However, the current sales structure of the project does not allow this. In the future, this circumstance is to be remedied.
