The autumn holidays are already approaching, and many are longing for relaxation and a change of scenery. One thing is fixed: those who travel must expect restrictions. Read here to find out which Corona measures apply in popular vacation countries.

France
In France, restaurants, cultural institutions and sports facilities are open. However, proof of vaccination, testing or convalescence is required for entry, even for outdoor areas. Such proof is also required for travel by bus or long-distance train. Entry is possible from Europe with proof of vaccination or a negative PCR or rapid test; proof is also required for return travel to Austria. Corona tests are no longer free for foreigners. The infection figures have been falling in France for weeks. Only in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region did more than 100 people per 100,000 recently become infected within a week.

Switzerland
Switzerland requires a Corona certificate in many places to prove vaccination, recovery or a negative test. Anyone who has not been vaccinated or recovered must present a negative antigen or PCR test upon entry – regardless of whether they plan to cross the border by plane, car, bicycle or on foot. In addition, all tourists must fill out an entry form with contact information. Those who are not vaccinated, recovered or tested negative (3G) will not be allowed to enter restaurant interiors. The EU certificate is recognized.

Denmark
Denmark lifted all current Corona restrictions on September 10. Life already felt almost restriction-free before, and a mask requirement has not existed for some time. So there is hardly anything standing in the way of an autumn vacation in a vacation home on the North Sea coast or a city trip to Copenhagen. Only when entering the country should you find out what the Danes expect from vacationers. Currently, travelers must present a Corona test. This does not apply to children, vaccinated persons and convalescents.

Netherlands
In the Netherlands, many measures have already been lifted or relaxed. The 1.5-meter rule, for example, no longer applies. Instead, before visiting restaurants, cultural and sporting events, people must prove that they have been vaccinated, tested or have recovered by means of a Corona passport. The same applies when entering the country. The digital proof of the EU is recognized. A mask requirement now only applies to buses, trains and airports.

Great Britain
While Britons are largely carefree, Corona requirements for travelers remain high. From October 4, fully vaccinated travelers from Austria no longer have to take an antigen test before departure. But a PCR test is still required no later than the second day after arrival, at a cost of at least 50 pounds (58 euros) per person. Pubs, theaters and other attractions are open. The number of new infections is currently stagnating at more than 30,000 per day, with the seven-day incidence recently rising to 350. From this Friday, moreover, a passport will be compulsory for entry into the UK; ID cards will no longer suffice.

Italy
The infection situation in Italy is relaxed; in no region are the numbers of Corona cases or hospitalizations cause for concern. Rome is very satisfied with the vaccination progress: Almost 80 percent of people over the age of twelve have been vaccinated. For locals and guests, the so-called “green passport” is crucial – this includes the EU Corona vaccination certificate issued in Austria: the passport is required for virtually all indoor activities – bars, restaurants, museums, sporting events, trains. Digital registration is required for entry, as well as vaccination, recovery or testing. Quarantine is not required.

Malta
Malta has one of the lowest infection rates and one of the highest vaccination rates in the EU. Digital registration and proof of vaccination, recovery or testing are required for entry. Those who cannot provide this must stay in an official quarantine hotel for 14 days after entry and pay 100 euros per night. Facilities such as stores, service establishments, cinemas and theaters are open. From Oct. 9, restaurants and bars will be allowed to refuse guests without proof of vaccination – if they do, they will be allowed to stay open longer, move tables closer together and serve people at the bar as a reward from the government.

Spain and Portugal
The Corona pandemic is currently relaxed in the two popular vacation countries of Spain and Portugal. The seven-day incidence in Spain is 27.5, lower than in Germany. 77.7 percent of the population is fully vaccinated against Corona. In Portugal, the 14-day incidence was 111, the health system was no longer under particular pressure, and the proportion of fully vaccinated people, 84 percent, is higher than in most other countries.

In light of this positive development, most restrictions have now been removed in both countries. However, masks are still compulsory in public indoors and in local transport. Outdoors, only if the minimum distance – 1.5 meters in Spain, two meters in Portugal – from people not living in the same household cannot be maintained.

Here and there, there may still be restrictions on the use of indoor spaces in restaurants. Particularly in Spain, there are still differences between individual regions. For example, dancing is allowed again in discos on the popular vacationer island of Majorca as of October 8, but in the tourist metropolis of Barcelona, it is only permitted on outdoor club dance floors.

When entering the country, however, electronic travel applications must still be filled out for both countries. And all persons over the age of 12 must present proof of vaccination or convalescence. Those who do not have that are required to show a negative PCR or antigen test.

Greece and Cyprus
Before entering Greece, visitors enter their information on a website (travel.gov.gr) and receive a QR code for tracking. They must also present a current negative rapid test or be fully vaccinated. This also applies to children over the age of twelve.

Cyprus classifies Austria in the red, or severely affected, category. This means for all entrants that they must be vaccinated, recovered or tested negative and then still have to take another Corona test at the airport in Cyprus and pay for it themselves. In addition, the “Cyprus Flight Pass” must be applied for on a website (cyprusflightpass.gov.cy) at least 48 hours before entry and must be carried at all times during the vacation.

Croatia
Tourists are required to provide a certificate proving that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested. Hotels receive guests without restrictions. Restaurants and cafes may also entertain in their indoor areas, but only at tables, between which distances must be maintained. Only a certain number of people may attend public gatherings.
