Due to high infection figures, Israel’s government is increasing the pressure on twice-vaccinated people in the Corona crisis: As of Sunday (Oct. 3), the so-called Green Pass, which facilitates access to public life, such as visiting restaurants, museums and conferences, will only be valid for up to six months after the second vaccination. After that, affected individuals must receive a third shot as a booster. Even those who test positive for Corona must receive another vaccination no later than six months after that. According to the Ministry of Health, around 61 percent of the approximately 9.4 million inhabitants have been vaccinated twice, and around 37 percent have been vaccinated three times. The requirement for the third shot is that the second vaccination must have been given at least five months ago. In early September, Israel recorded the highest number of new infections per day since the pandemic began, with more than 11,000. Since then, infection numbers have been slowly declining. The vast majority of the latest 600 or so severely ill people are unvaccinated.

Further, very few adverse reactions have been reported in people who have received booster vaccination against coronavirus. This was reported by the Ministry of Health on Friday (Oct. 1). Only 19 of the 3.2 million vaccinated for the third time reported significant side effects such as fatigue, weakness or local discomfort at the injection site – far fewer than after the first two vaccinations. The department also reported that heart muscle inflammation was very rare among 12- to 15-year-olds who were vaccinated. Only 11 children became ill after the first or second vaccination, and all recovered fully. According to the ministry, 331,538 children aged 12 to 15 years received one dose of the vaccine and 255,444 children received two doses.
