Corona tests will remain free until the end of March. This was confirmed by the Ministry of Health on Monday morning as published by the Austrian Press Agency.
In a written statement of the department of Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) it is said that the ministry has dealt intensively with the question of free Corona tests in Austria in recent weeks with the involvement of experts and came to the conclusion that from the current point of view a continuation of these should remain. All Corona measures, including the testing modalities, would continue to be evaluated on an ongoing basis and adapted to the situation if necessary. Actually, the funding for the free tests would have expired in October.
While voices had been raised in several ÖVP-led provinces to end the free campaigns and at least charge the prescription fee for a test, the SPÖ-led provinces in particular had campaigned for a continuation of the free tests. The argument in favor is that with more tests, a better overview of infection incidence can be maintained; the argument against is that the test alternative can inhibit vaccination propensity.
