The third oldest woman in the world has died at the age of 116. As local media reported on Sunday, Francisca Celsa dos Santos died of pneumonia 16 days before her 117th birthday in Fortaleza in the Brazilian state of Ceara. She had been born on Oct. 21, 1904, according to the U.S. Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
“She was synonymous with love, will to live, everything good you can imagine,” said her granddaughter Fernanda Aliny Barroso Celsa, according to the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper. “Although she could no longer move and had been bedridden for several years, she left a void in all areas of the house.”
Only the Japanese Kane Tanaka (118 years and 281 days) and the French Lucile Randon (117 years and 241 days) are older than the deceased Brazilian.
