According to the Robert Koch Institute, health authorities in Germany reported 4,325 new corona infections within 24 hours on Monday morning. The figure is comparatively low, partly because not all health authorities transmit data at the weekend. Measured against the 2,467 reported infections on Monday last week, however, the current value is significantly higher.
The number of new infections reached a peak on Saturday with 7,830 for the third time in a row. According to RKI, at least 366,299 people in Germany have been proven to be infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus since the beginning of the corona crisis (as of October 19, 0:00 a.m.). The number of deaths associated with corona infection was thus 9,789, twelve more than the day before. The RKI estimates that there are about 294,800 convalescents.
According to the RKI situation report of Sunday, the reproduction rate, or R-value for short, was 1.44 in Germany (previous day: 1.40). This means that ten infected persons infect an average of 14 to 15 other people. The R-value reflects the course of infection about one and a half weeks before.
