The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Interior have reported 2,103 newly registered coronavirus cases within the last 24 hours (as of 9:30 a.m. today). These figures were reported by the federal states to the national crisis team.
Sideways movement instead of increase: this trend accompanied the Austrians the past weeks, the daily new infections increased slowly, but an enormous increase remained absent. Until recently, at least, because then the explosion came after all: on Wednesday the country recorded 2,614 positive tests, then on Thursday 2,169 and on Friday another 2,432 new infections, on Saturday 2,397 new infections were reported, hundreds more than in the previous week.
On Sunday, authorities announce 2,103 new Corona infections. By comparison, a week ago Sunday, there were 1,675 new infections Austria-wide.
Corona measures have already been tightened in Vienna, Upper Austria and Salzburg, and now Carinthia is following suit. In view of the rising numbers in intensive care units, Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig already pulled the ripcord at the beginning of October and tightened up the Corona rules in the federal capital – keyword: 2.5G. Strict exit controls will also come into force in the Salzburg municipality of St. Koloman from Monday. And Carinthia is also following suit with additional measures.
From 0:00 on Monday, the 3G rule will apply to employees and visitors to inpatient residential and nursing care facilities for the elderly. Anyone who cannot prove that they have been tested, recovered or vaccinated must present proof from an authorized body of a negative result from a molecular biology test for SARS-CoV-2, which must not have been taken more than 72 hours ago. Burgenland, on the other hand, plans to lift further Corona measures as early as November because of the province’s high vaccination rate.
