Today, Tuesday, Austria celebrates its national holiday. Due to the corona pandemic, this year’s celebrations will again take place in a scaled-down form, but there will be plenty on offer online, from the performance show of the Austrian Armed Forces to a guided tour of parliament. The new Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) and Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) will address the population for the first time in this constellation.

While at Heldenplatz the Austrian Armed Forces will start their performance show with morning sports, which will be broadcasted on nationalfeiertag21.at and on ORF, the federal government will meet a few meters away at the Chancellery for the traditional Special Council of Ministers. Afterwards, Chancellor Schallenberg and Vice-Chancellor Kogler will contest the press foyer together for the first time.

As every year, Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and then the federal government will lay wreaths in remembrance at the Outer Burgtor. In addition, 100 recruits will be sworn in at Heldenplatz in the morning, Commander-in-Chief and Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will give a speech. Compared to usual there are actually no open doors this year, an exception is the Hofburg: A Corona vaccination line will be set up in the premises, after the sting one can visit the presidential chancellery. The Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have come up with an on-site program outside.
