Vienna. A new corona regulation will apply from November. At the top of the changes presented in a new regulation on Monday is 3 G at work. But the rules for winter tourism will also be adapted, the same applies to Christmas markets, and there is also news for top athletes. Below is an overview.

Work
Starting in November, almost all employees must be vaccinated, recovered or tested when they arrive at the place of work. The only exceptions are people who have contact with others for no more than 15 minutes twice a day, and even that only if it takes place outdoors. In other words, except for foresters and truck drivers, there won’t be many occupational groups that will be spared 3 Gs. During a transitional period of two weeks, it is still possible to wear an FFP2 mask as an alternative to 3G.

In itself, the mask requirement in the workplace is almost universally eliminated. Mouth-nose protection will only be mandatory for employees in care and hospital facilities – there also for visitors.

Tourism
The ordinance clarifies two issues that are important for winter tourism. For example, it specifies that not only a mask but also a 3-G certificate is required to use cable cars.

People who use the cable car to meet everyday needs are exempt. In other words, those who live on the mountain and travel down to the valley to go shopping or to the doctor do not necessarily have to be tested, recovered or vaccinated. Après-ski, the pleasure of hard-drinking winter tourists that has fallen into disrepute since Corona, is possible again.

However, the stricter rules apply there, analogous to night gastronomy. This means that anyone who has only been tested (i.e. neither vaccinated nor recovered) must be able to show a higher-grade PCR test in order to gain entry. From an occupancy of 300 intensive care beds, which could be reached in a short time, only vaccinated and recovered persons will be admitted.

Gastronomy/events
The regulations for restaurants and hotels as well as for events remain very relaxed. Here, even the moderately informative living room tests continue to be accepted within the framework of 3G. Antigen tests may only be 24 hours old, PCR tests 72 hours. Exceptionally, self-tests can also be taken on site, for example outside a pub. None of this applies to Vienna. Here, only PCR tests have been accepted for some time.

However, the rules could soon become stricter in the other federal states as well. Once 300 intensive care beds are occupied, living room tests will disappear.

Christmas markets
Christmas markets can go into scene this year. According to the Ministry of Health, the rules have been adjusted so that fencing is no longer necessary. Alternatively, ribbons can be used to display 3-G evidence.

Schools
There is one clarification regarding testing at schools. These are also recognized from Friday to Sunday in pubs and other facilities, although usually only on Mondays and Wednesdays is tested and so the normal validity on the weekend would already be exceeded.

New applies from November also for competitive athletes. They will need a 3-G certificate if there is a possibility that they will meet other people while practicing sports/training. This means that if you are not walking alone across a sports field, a proof will be necessary.
