Biontech and Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine has now received emergency approval in the US for use in children between the ages of five and eleven. After an advisory panel of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted in favor on Tuesday, the FDA granted emergency approval yesterday. Subsequently, the health authority CDC must now also formally deal with it.
This means that the vaccination campaign for the approximately 28 million children affected in the USA can now start in November, as already planned by the White House. Within the next few days, 15 million doses of vaccine are to be delivered to pediatricians, clinics and pharmacies. In Europe, the German company Biontech and its U.S. partner Pfizer have also applied for approval of their CoV vaccine for children in this age group.
