In Vienna’s hospitals, safety measures are being tightened due to the rising number of coronaviruses: from now on, all visitors will need a PCR test no more than 48 hours old. This also applies to those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.
Each patient or patient may be visited by one person per day. Since Wednesday, everyone twelve years of age and older must present a valid PCR test at the entrance. Visitors must continue to wear an FFP2 mask. Children between the ages of six and twelve require an antigen test to gain entry.
The PCR test, which must not be older than 48 hours, is an additional safety measure because the incidence is rising and vaccine breakthroughs are occurring, according to the office of City Health Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ). The new access rule also applies to all religious hospitals, he said.
Further 3-G in old folk’s homes
Even those who need to go to the hospital for a planned stay need a PCR test, whether vaccinated or recovered. In the city’s retiree residences and nursing homes, however, the 3-G rule continues to apply. Vaccinated or recovered visitors are therefore not required to present an additional PCR test.
