As one of its new measures, the government has decided that in future the green passport will only be valid for nine months after the second vaccination, instead of the previous twelve. Thus, in order to show the G of valid vaccination protection, one will have to get a booster vaccination after nine months.

For people who have received the vaccine from Janssen (= Johnson & Johnson), the following will apply from January 3, 2022: A second dose is needed for a valid green passport.

At the beginning of the week, the national vaccination committee released the third Corona vaccination as early as six months after the second sting. Health Minister Mueckstein acknowledged “that vaccination protection decreases noticeably after six months.” The third vaccination is particularly important “for people over 65 and patients with risk factors,” the health minister said.

Third sting possible after four months
In special cases, it is also possible to get the vaccination booster earlier – namely after four months, according to the National Vaccination Panel.

In principle, mRNA vaccines are to be used for the third vaccination, according to the recommendations. Preferably, “the same vaccine should be used as for the previous immunizations (homologous vaccination schedule).”

However, Moderna’s vaccine should only be used for over-30s for boosters. For all younger individuals, it is recommended that Pfizer/Biontech be used for boosters, the reason being a “preliminary uncertainty regarding an increased risk of myocarditis or pericarditis following Spikevax vaccination” in younger individuals.

Persons vaccinated once with the Janssen (Johnson&Johnson) vaccine should receive another vaccination at a minimum interval of 28 days, preferably using Pfizer/Biontech or, in those over 30 years of age, Moderna; however, Janssen may be used again. The vaccine was originally designed to require only one sting. However, experts say the vaccine’s protection has waned too quickly. Also, the panel assumes “that, as with all other vaccines, another vaccination with an mRNA vaccine will be needed after 6 months.”
