The Corona situation in Austria continues to worsen: only yesterday, a new all-time high in the pandemic was registered with almost 11,400 new infections. In the case of intensive care beds, the 400 mark was already exceeded the day before.
“We have to take the situation very seriously,” said Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein about the situation and invited to the crisis summit with the two problem children Upper Austria (incidence of 1,138) and Salzburg (incidence: 957). Mückstein advocated regional lockdowns for the unvaccinated – and was rebuffed by the state governors. Negotiations will continue on Friday.
From Wednesday to Thursday, the highest mark fell again: 11,975 new Corona infections were registered in Austria in the last 24 hours. Today’s new infections are below the previous seven-day average of 9,593, and the seven-day incidence is currently 754.38.
There are also 24 new deaths related to Covid 19 infection to report, bringing the pandemic death toll in Austria to 11,601 so far. The number of active cases rises to 81,684.
Hospitals are treating 2,283 patients. There are 432 patients in intensive care units.
In the past 24 hours, 344,383 PCR tests have been performed, with a positive rate of 3.86 percent.
