No school events, such as field trips and hiking days, will be allowed at schools during the next two weeks. In addition, starting Tuesday, FFP2 masks will also be mandatory for elementary and junior high school students, with the exception of their own seats – if a mask is not available, mouth-to-nose protection (MNS) may be worn.

If however no FFP2 mask should be available, can be carried at elementary schools and lower stages also a mouth nose protection (MNS), it was called Monday afternoon from the education ministry. This will also be communicated to the schools in a further info. For the older young people the continuous carrying of a FFP2 mask remains however in any case obligatory.

Test obligation for all, except recovered
In addition, no outsiders such as clubs are allowed to come to the schools. Parent-teacher conferences and meetings must be held digitally or rescheduled. In addition, it is no longer just unvaccinated students who must take a CoV test three times a week (including at least one PCR test). Even those who have been vaccinated are again required to test – except, as before, only recoved children and adolescents, as testing can still be effective in them even without a new infection.

New rules apply for two weeks
These rules will apply from Tuesday until November 27. Monday is still a transition day (in Vienna and Lower Austria it is free of school because of the national holiday). This means that the classification of the three federal states of Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Tyrol into risk level three or the other states into level two, which was originally made by the CoV Commission for this week, is obsolete. Austria as a whole is now subject to rules that largely correspond to level three, but in some cases go beyond it (compulsory testing also for vaccinated persons, FFP2 compulsory except at the seat also at elementary schools and lower schools).

On November 29, according to the current plan, schools should return to their previous operation. Then, only the unvaccinated students will have to test, and in addition, the rules will apply based on the respective risk level established for the state.

Two PCR tests per week for the unvaccinated.
However, PCR testing will be expanded with this date. Then, as is already the case in Vienna, unvaccinated students will have to undergo not one but two PCR tests per week. The same applies to teaching staff: unvaccinated teachers will then have to take two PCR tests per week, while vaccinated teachers will be offered the opportunity to do so. Unlike in the past, teachers will also be allowed to test at schools.

Away from school, the following applies to children and adolescents: Children up to the age of twelve are exempt from the lockdown provisions. For children between the ages of twelve and fifteen, the “Ninja Pass” from school is treated the same as the 2-G certificate. This means they can use it to visit restaurants or play sports at a club – if the pass is filled out completely for the week, it is also valid on weekends. Restriction: Individual federal states (or even clubs) are allowed to set stricter rules.
