The announced tightening is fixed: Starting tomorrow, the 2Gplus rule will apply in bars, cinemas and theaters. In addition, the mask obligation will be extended.

Since today it is fixed: The tightening of the corona rules already announced by Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) comes into force tomorrow, Friday. Today, the Vienna measures accompanying ordinance was issued.

An overview of the rules and regulations in Vienna

The FFP2 mask obligation is significantly expanded. In the catering trade (here 2G applies, i.e. vaccinated or recovered), staff must in future wear FFP2 masks throughout. Guests will wear an FFP2 mask when entering the restaurant, on the way to the table and when leaving the table.

All staff in the trade will also have to wear FFP2 masks again. The mask requirement for customers remains unchanged. For services close to the body, the mask requirement applies to both employees and customers.

As reported, indoor areas will also be tightened: the FFP2 mask obligation will also apply in all rooms that are not private areas as of tomorrow. This means especially in the workplace, where there is close contact with other people (not only customers, but also between work colleagues). Especially if there are no structural protective measures.

For gatherings of more than 25 people – regardless of whether they take place indoors or outdoors – and in night catering, 2Gplus will apply to participants and customers from tomorrow. This means that in addition to a valid recovery or vaccination certificate, a negative PCR test result must be shown that is not older than 48 hours.

The testing requirement for children 6 years of age and older remains in effect. For children 6 to 11 years of age, 3G applies with extended test validities: Rapid antigen tests are valid for 48 hours, PCR tests for 72 hours. In this age group, a fully completed Ninja Pass is also valid for entry until the respective end of the week. For children and adolescents aged 12 to 15, the Ninja Pass does not count as an entry test. In Vienna, 2.5G applies to them and each school test individually.

At Christmas markets nothing changes, 2G still applies. In gyms, 2G also applies, and an FFP2 mask requirement on the way to and from the equipment, and on the way to and from the shower.

The regulation comes into force on November 19, 2021 and is initially limited until November 24, 2021.
