Nearly 2.4 million Corona vaccinations were administered in November; the only month with more was June, with 2.6 million. Unlike the first half of the year, however, booster vaccinations are currently dominating the scene.
In the Ministry of Health data, 1.6 million third-party vaccinations appear for November. However, almost 427,000 people were vaccinated against the coronavirus for the first time.
Vaccination rates in the provinces
Just under 67 percent of people in Austria have a valid vaccination certificate – the six million mark is likely to be exceeded here soon. A vaccination certificate is issued to anyone who has been fully vaccinated or who has received at least one vaccination dose after recovery. The proportion is highest in Burgenland (73 percent), followed by Lower Austria (69), Styria (67) and Vienna (66). Vaccination coverage is lowest in Upper Austria (62) and Salzburg (63), Carinthia and Vorarlberg (64 each). In Tyrol, just under 66 percent are fully vaccinated.
More than 72,000 booster vaccinations administered on Tuesday
On Tuesday alone, 72,428 people received the third vaccination and 15,206 the second. In contrast, the rush for the first vaccination, which had increased significantly in the meantime, has stagnated again since mid-November. Almost 11,000 people received the first dose of the Corona vaccine on Tuesday, most of them in Vienna (2,399), Upper Austria (2,186) and Lower Austria (1,758). In four of nine provinces (Burgenland, Lower Austria, Styria and Vienna), more than 70 percent have now been vaccinated at least once.
More initial Corona vaccinations needed
Even if the current rate of vaccination were to continue, just under 80 percent of the population would still have received a first Corona vaccination (79.1 percent) by the time compulsory vaccination came into force in February. Admittedly, this calculation includes children under 14 (nine percent of the population), who would be exempt from mandatory vaccination, or under-fives, for whom no vaccine has yet been licensed (five percent of the population).
Almost 44,000 children already vaccinated against Corona
Just under a week after official approval, nearly 44,000 children under the age of 12 have been vaccinated against Covid-19 (4.2 percent), according to E-vaccine Passport data. Just under 4,000 have received a second dose. Exactly 5,422 children in this age group have a valid vaccination certificate.
