The lockdown ends for vaccinated and recovered people at the end of December 11 – but the great freedom is far from being achieved. Because according to the draft regulation certain restrictions remain in place. For example, the ubiquitous mask obligation – at least in closed rooms. There are also rules for private gatherings. For example, parties in closed rooms are allowed for a maximum of 25 people, provided they have a 2G certificate. And curfew is 11 p.m. all over the country.

The FFP2 mask will continue to dominate the public image. It must be worn in all public enclosed spaces, in commerce, public transport, cabs, in church, at the hairdresser’s and when entering pubs and hotels. For catering, sports, cultural and recreational facilities, the hours of operation are between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. – which means that night catering will remain closed. In the catering and hotel industry it is necessary to register again for the purpose of contact tracing.

Indoor gatherings with 25 people allowed
Wedding, birthday or even Christmas parties are allowed again, but only with a 2G proof of all guests. Indoor gatherings are allowed up to 25 people, outdoor gatherings are allowed up to 300 people. With assigned and marked seats, even 2000 people are allowed to attend indoor gatherings and 4000 people are allowed to attend outdoor gatherings, which should be of particular interest to cultural organizers. Of course, masks are still compulsory in enclosed spaces.

The events are subject to registration from 50 participants, from 250 participants only with the permission of the district administrative authority and may only take place between 5 am and 11 pm.

Private meetings only in fours and with 2G proof
Meetings are exempt from these restrictions only if a maximum of four people with 2G proof from different households meet, not including a maximum of six underage children. Children up to the age of twelve are exempt from the 2G proof requirement. In the workplace, 3G continues to apply under the new regulation, and an FFP2 mask must be worn when entering. The recommendation for home offices also remains in the new regulation.

Mandatory wearing of masks in pubs, 11 p.m. closing time
If you visit a pub, you must wear your mask until you sit at the table. You are not allowed to choose your table yourself, it will be assigned by the service staff. Beer or cocktails are not available at the bar, and may only be consumed at the table. Closing time is at 11 pm. The ban on stand-up catering is also likely to have an impact on Christmas markets, with Alm Advent in Vienna’s Prater already announcing via Facebook that it will not be reopening.

Known exit restrictions for the unvaccinated.
A lockdown continues for the unvaccinated; they are allowed to leave their residence for the known exceptions, such as going to work or getting basic necessities. Still possible is going to the doctor and other health services or going for vaccination or testing. Taking care of animals or attending official appointments are also among the exceptional reasons, as is spending time outdoors for physical and mental recreation. Also allowed are “satisfying basic religious needs” and going to school or university.

Ordinance to be in effect until Dec. 21
The new ordinance is to be in effect until Dec. 21. What the second Christmas in the sign of the Corona pandemic will look like then is yet to be decided. The ordinance is considered a framework, and it is up to the individual federal states to tighten or open up the ordinance. In any case, the vaccination requirement for everyone over the age of 14 is fixed for next year, starting in February.
