15,809 New Infections – November 19 marked the day with the most new infections in 24 hours since the pandemic began. Just one of many sad records in the past Corona year.

Less than a week later, on November 24, it was also followed by the day with the highest 7-day incidence per 100,000 population. Just over a month ago, then, this stood at 1,111.97. For comparison. Now it is 167.5.

Two records that one would probably expect to see this year, based on the high infection numbers, already existed in 2020: namely, that of the most covid patients in normal wards. Since the beginning of the pandemic, this occurred on November 24, 2020, when 3,985 patients were treated in normal wards. At the same time, there were also the highest number of intensive care patients on November 25, 2020, with 709 patients.

However, the highest values in 2021 in terms of hospitalizations very well occurred in the fourth wave. On November 30, there were 2,769 patients in a Covid normal care unit. There were also 664 intensive care patients on December 6.

The same is true, by the way, for deaths. Again, the highest number of deaths in a single day occurred on Dec. 17, 2020, with 218 deaths related to Covid 19 infection.

In 2021, the highest value in this year was already at the beginning. On January 5, 100 people died in a 24-hour period in connection with Covid 19 infection.

However, there was a record this year in terms of PCR testing. On Nov. 26, 542,234 tests were evaluated within 24 hours. Incidentally, the highest percentage of new infections in PCR tests performed occurred on January 5. Of 15,450 PCR tests, 14.96 percent or 2,311 tests were positive on that day. This “record” should be treated with caution, however, as there were no nationwide PCR tests throughout Austria at that time.

10.000 & 1.000.000
A sad record was broken on April 22. On that day, just over a year after the start of the pandemic, there were officially over 10,000 covid deaths in total. Another of those record marks then fell on November 18. On that day, the one-million-infected mark was broken since the start of the pandemic. This was followed on November 30 by the one million recovered mark since the start of the pandemic.

Another factor that has been added this year is the Corona vaccine. On November 26, there were 159,127 stings, the most vaccinations (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) in a single day.
