In Greece, the number of new Corona infections has reached an all-time high. From Sunday to Monday (Dec. 27), 9284 new infections were registered, more than ever before within 24 hours. Health Minister Thanos Plevris announced stricter Corona rules, but they will not apply until Jan. 3. Otherwise, the problem shifts to the private sphere because of the holidays, Plevris said at a press conference Monday evening. From Jan. 3, Plevris said, FFP-2 masks will be mandatory in public spaces. Bars, taverns and pubs must then close again at midnight. Guests will also not be allowed to stand or even dance, but only to sit.
China has recorded the highest number of new local coronavirus infections so far this year, with 162 new infections in one day. Authorities reported Monday (Dec. 27) that 150 infections alone were reported in the Xi’an metropolis, where massive curfews had already been imposed on the 13 million residents last week following the emergence of several cases. In Xi’an, people are now only allowed to leave their homes in exceptional circumstances. Each family can designate one member to go shopping every two days. The population has also been completely tested for the virus several times. The authorities have begun large-scale disinfection measures in the city. Residents should no longer touch surfaces and plants.
