Significant increase over the weekend: For the first time since December 1, more than 10,000 new infections were registered by the authorities in Austria within 24 hours. Specifically, 10,291 new cases were reported on Sunday, more than ever before on a Sunday.

However, the past few days also saw more testing than any previous weekend. 418,952 were on Friday, 390,102 on Saturday. The explanation for this could also lie in tomorrow’s start of school, for which students are called upon to present a valid PCR test. However, this regulation is not mandatory.

The number of active cases rises to 69,757, with a 7-day incidence of 605.67.

There are also four new deaths associated with Covid 19 infection to report.

Hospitals are currently treating 911 patients. This is 9 people less than on Saturday. Intensive care units in the state are currently treating 262 patients, down by nine from the previous day.

At the provincial level, Salzburg, with a 7-day incidence of 1,132, is well ahead of Tyrol (979) and Vienna (684). Styria is currently at the bottom of the list, although the curve of new infections is clearly pointing upwards again in all federal states.

There has been progress in the area of vaccination. In the past few days, the vaccination rate increased by 28.17 percent compared to the previous week, which was slow due to the holiday. On Friday, 40,942 doses of vaccine were administered, which were broken down as follows: 3,997 first shots; 10,157 second shots; 26,788 third shots.
