Vienna saw a huge rush for the city’s testing facilities on Sunday. In view of the Omicron variant, these are to be expanded further in the near future.
The Christmas vacations are over, and tomorrow it’s back to work or school. In Vienna, the testing facilities were therefore literally stormed on Sunday, as reported by ORF.
Vienna wants to expand PCR testing services
In order to prepare for Omicron and the increasing numbers of infections, the city of Vienna wants to expand its testing capacities. First, this is to be done at the particularly “sought-after” locations, such as the Austria Center, where there were also long waiting times on Sunday.
If necessary, up to 500,000 PCR samples can currently be analyzed daily. To ensure that everyone continues to receive the test results on time, the capacities of the “Alles gurgelt” laboratory are to be increased. After all, the more positive cases there are, the more time and effort it takes to process them.
