Rumors about a flexible Apple phone have been around for a long time. A foldable iPhone is not expected until 2023 at the earliest.
Foldable smartphones have not really caught on so far. Nevertheless, numerous cell phone manufacturers have a flexible device on offer: from Samsung to Motorola to Huawei. Oppo and Honor have also recently joined them.
The situation is different for Apple. The technology group from Cupertino is still taking its time with the introduction of a foldable iPhone. Behind the scenes, however, the company is said to be working hard on a flexible Apple phone.
Foldable iPhone should not be a step backwards
Apple does not want to launch an unfinished or immature product, estimates the leaker Dylandkt on Twitter. Apple also wants to make sure that a foldable phone is not a step backwards compared to current form factors.
Apple is used to such an approach by now: The manufacturer waited for the Apple Watch, for example, and let the competition go first. Only when the Apple Watch was fully developed was it presented. Even with the iPhone, Apple was not a pioneer.
What a foldable iPhone could look like can be seen in numerous concept videos on YouTube and other platforms.
Apple wants to learn from the competition’s mistakes
Apple observes the competition and tries to learn from the mistakes of its competitors, said the well-known Apple expert Mark Gurman only recently. Only then does the iPhone manufacturer decide on the design and form factor.
Apple wants to spare itself a debacle similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold. When Samsung presented its first foldable smartphone, the market launch was accompanied by massive technical problems.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had already reported in mid-2021 that Apple would show a foldable iPhone in 2023 at the earliest. Display expert Ross Young has a similar view. He expects a flexible Apple phone in 2023 at the earliest, maybe even not until 2024.
