Peak levels of new CoV infections have been reported in several countries today. In Germany, more than 100,000 new infections were reported to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day for the first time since the CoV pandemic began. Health offices reported 112,323 cases in 24 hours, according to RKI data this morning.

The RKI now gave the 7-day incidence as 584.4. This is also an all-time high. By comparison, the previous day, the Germany-wide incidence was 553.2, and a week ago it was 407.5.

Omicron wave in Czech Republic
A high of 28,469 new cases within 24 hours was also reported in the Czech Republic. According to earlier data, more than 80 percent of the new infections were likely due to the more contagious Omikron variant.

Within seven days, there were 950 new infections per 100,000 population, according to the latest figures. The number of hospitalizations is currently much lower than in previous waves.

Israel’s reporting systems with problems
Israel reached a peak of about 71,000 new infections in one day. This figure was given to Army Radio by Health Ministry Director General Nachman Asch.

Most recently, the Health Ministry had had problems transmitting up-to-date infection figures because of a system overload. The reason cited was the sharp increase in the number of cases. Asch said he expects the peak of the Omikron wave in Israel to be reached in about a week.

Also reporting daily highs were Japan (about 38,000 new infections) and Brazil (about 137,000 new infections).
