France is gradually easing CoV restrictions in February while significantly tightening rules for the unvaccinated. They will then no longer have access to gastronomy, cultural venues, sporting events and long-distance transport with the introduction of the nationwide vaccination and recovery certificate, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced yesterday.
For all people aged 16 and older, full vaccination will thus become a prerequisite for unrestricted participation in public life. People who opt for an initial vaccination by mid-February will then temporarily be allowed to continue to present an additional negative test as a condition of entry.
Hospitals not overloaded
Despite current high infection rates, the high vaccination rate protects hospitals from being overloaded, Castex said, adding that 93 percent of adults were vaccinated and one million people still opted for immunization after the 2-G rules were announced.
As a result, capacity restrictions on sports and cultural facilities could be lifted starting Feb. 2 – as could outdoor masking regulations. The home office requirement would be changed to a recommendation. Discos will be allowed to reopen on Feb. 16, and eating and drinking on trains will also be permitted again. Also relaxed will be the masking and testing regulations in schools.
