The number of new infections within 24 hours was 126,955, according to data from public health authorities.
The incidence rate of new Corona infections in Germany has again reached an all-time high. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported the seven-day incidence at 894.3 on Tuesday morning. On Monday the value had been 840.3, on Tuesday last week 553.2. The incidence quantifies the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the period of seven days.
The number of new infections within 24 hours was 126,955 on Tuesday – up from 63,393 the previous day and 74,405 on Tuesday last week – according to health department data.
The RKI further announced, citing data from health offices, that 214 new deaths related to the coronavirus were counted on Monday.
Since the start of the pandemic, health offices have recorded a total of 8,871,795 cases of infection, according to the latest data from the institute. The total number of registered corona deaths in Germany now stands at 116,960, while the RKI puts the number of people recovered from coronavirus illness in Germany at around 7,331,200.
In November, the federal and state governments defined the so-called hospitalization incidence as the decisive yardstick for tightening the corona measures. This value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants are hospitalized within seven days due to a Corona infection. According to the most recent RKI report on Monday, the hospitalization incidence was 3.87 nationwide.
