The gargle tests have an expiration date. However, they can be used for longer, as Lead Horizon now explained.
The supply of PCR tests in Vienna is going well: each person is allowed to get up to eight gargle tests per week free of charge at any BIPA store. However, this led to many people hoarding the gargle tests at home.
However, the tests have an expiration date. So recently the question arose again and again whether expired gargle tests can still be used and whether the result is influenced.
Expired gargle test: Can it still be used?
As the medical technology manufacturer Lead Horizon, which offers gargle tests in Vienna and Upper Austria, explains on its website, the best-before date refers to the liquid Eprouvette (Vacuette). The PCR test can be used for another three months after the expiration date, Lead Horizon explained. The company even asks that expired tests still be used and not thrown away.
Expired gargle tests: will the result be affected?
“It does not affect the result,” the manufacturer emphasizes. “Lead Horizon tests can be used up to three months beyond the expiration date without hesitation,” the company explains on Linkedin.
