People who have survived an infection with the Omicron variant within the last three months will no longer have to be quarantined after contact with an infected person.
This was stated by the Ministry of Health in a new version of the contact person regulation. This is likely to have an impact on kindergartens and elementary schools, for example. The regulation has already been communicated to the provincial sanitary directorates and is to be applied soon, it was said to APA.
Omicron variant automatically assumed in case of infection
Additional proof of the virus variant is not required. Since the beginning of January 2022, an omicron infection can be assumed as long as there is no clear evidence of infection by another variant. The new regulation could avoid many quarantine cases and relieve the health authorities, emphasized the Ministry of Health.
Already, persons with three so-called “immunological events,” i.e., either three vaccinations or two vaccinations and one recovery, or children between five and eleven years of age with two vaccinations or one vaccination and one recovery, were no longer considered category I contacts. Also already now one does not have to quarantine, if with the contact with infected persons protective measures were set like a FFP2 mask (with children up to 14 also a mouth nose protection).
New regulations relevant for kindergartens and elementary schools
The new regulation extends this group of people. This is likely to play a greater role in kindergartens, for example, where many children are unvaccinated and do not wear masks. The same applies to elementary schools if the mask requirement has not been consistently observed or if there is no requirement at all (for example, during meals in all-day school types).
