On March 5, Corona regulations in Austria will be relaxed, and after a two-year break, night gastronomy with clubs and discos will lock up again. Only in Vienna do the measures remain stricter.

From Saturday, there is no longer a closing time.

On Friday, the pubs still have to close at midnight. But from Saturday there will be no more closing time. So some clubs will open at 00.01 on Friday night. Others want to open earlier on Friday, keep the closing time at midnight and reopen practically immediately after a one-minute break.

Vienna opens discos and Club only with 2G

In some cases, they will open with stricter rules than those set by law. For example, some renowned Innsbruck clubs will start using the 3G control without having to.

In Vienna, pubs in the nighttime gastronomy sector – which will be allowed to reopen on Saturday – will only be able to enter with a 2G certificate. This is what Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) told APA on Thursday. The regulation corresponds to that regulation, which applies in Vienna also to restaurants or coffee houses in Vienna. Vienna does not fully support the nationwide relaxation of measures and remains more cautious in certain areas.

“The pandemic is not over. Yesterday, we recorded the second-highest number of new infections in Austria since the pandemic began more than two years ago. Despite this, the federal government is sticking to the opening steps it announced and the elimination of almost all Corona protection measures,” Ludwig criticized in a statement sent to APA: “I view this with concern because hospital bed occupancy in normal wards continues to be very high and staff is fully stretched.”

“In Vienna, we are sticking to our cautious course. “

The warnings of most experts, according to which the steps in their entirety are being taken too early, have proven true, he found. “In Vienna, we are also sticking to our consistent and cautious course. That means concretely that the mask obligation in the trade remains just like 2G in the catering trade,” he referred to already recently announced measures. 2G will also apply in clubs and discotheques in the future. The mayor justified this because it had shown “that this is an area, where one must pay special attention” in the past.

This way, he affirmed, is supported by many club operators and representatives of the night gastronomy. Recently, it was even discussed to require a PCR test. The “Plus” variant does not come now, however.
