On Monday, twenty-six thousand one hundred fifty-three new Corona infections were reported in Austria.
In the past 24 hours (as of 7.3.2022, 9.30 am), 26,153 new coronavirus infections have been reported in Austria.
Since Sunday, 26,153 new corona infections have been registered in Austria – the highest Monday figure in a month. In addition, there were 18 more deaths; only on Sunday, the 15,000 mark of fatalities had been exceeded. More patients were seen in hospitals at the beginning of the week. Vaccination preparedness remains very low. Since the previous week, the protein vaccine Nuvaxovid of the US manufacturer Novavax has been available – only 1,758 vaccinations were carried out.
Less than 1,200 vaccinations
In addition, Sunday was the weakest day ever since vaccinations began in Austria in early January 2021, with only 1,180 vaccinations nationwide. In total, 6,803,599 people have already received at least one vaccination, according to the E-vaccination passport data. Exactly 6,241,116 people and thus 69.9 percent of Austrians have proper vaccination protection.
The 26,153 new infections in the past 24 hours are below the average of the past seven days, with 30,596 new cases daily, but they are the highest Monday figure since 7 February. At that time, 27,299 new infections were registered. The seven-day incidence on Monday was 2,397.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. At the beginning of the week, there were 289,427 confirmed active cases in Austria.
Corona pandemic claimed more than 15,000 lives
In the past week, 217 deaths were recorded. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 15,026 lives in Austria since it broke out more than three years ago. Per 100,000 inhabitants, 168.2 people have already died from or with Covid-19.
On Monday, 2,592 patients had to be treated in the hospital, which is 123 more than the day before. Within the past week, 157 more infected people had to be admitted to the hospital. In intensive care units, 195 seriously ill patients were treated on Monday, four more than on Sunday and six more than a week ago.
Over 2.8 million confirmed cases since the pandemic began
Since the pandemic’s beginning, there have already been 2,893,913 confirmed cases in Austria. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, 2,589,460 people have recovered. The province with the highest seven-day incidence is Vorarlberg with 2,676.6, followed by Lower Austria, Styria, and Salzburg (2,605.2, 2,571.9, and 2,514.3 respectively). Behind them were Upper Austria (2,455.4), Tyrol (2,365.7), Burgenland (2,300.6), Carinthia (2,153.6) and Vienna (2,063.7).
On Sunday, as usual, minimal testing was done. A total of 190,376 PCR and antigen rapid tests were reported in the past 24 hours – on average, almost 700,000 analyses were reported daily last week. Yesterday, 152,064 conclusive PCR tests were examined, the positive rate was very high at 17.2 percent. Last week, an average of more than 492,000 PCR smears were analyzed daily throughout Austria, of which an average of 6.2 percent yielded positive results.
