The Corona Commission calls for the reintroduction of measures to contain the coronavirus.
The Corona Commission is sounding the alarm over the high number of cases and calling for stricter measures.
According to information from the APA, all provinces were again put on the highest risk level at today’s committee meeting. Still, the reintroduction of appropriate preventive measures was also demanded. It is interesting to note that only the representative of the Federal Chancellery abstained from this recommendation.
The Commission justified the request with the increasing number of cases and the growing burden in normal wards in hospitals. Therefore, the reintroduction of preventive measures on a nationwide basis was recommended.
It was pointed out, for example, that one should not only look at the pure infection figures but also at the proportion of symptomatic diseases and subsequently also at the situation in the hospitals and health care facilities. Admittedly, according to the traffic light documents, things are not precisely rosy there either.
The number of asymptomatic cases is just 29 percent. That is primarily thanks to Vienna, which pursues a broad testing strategy and reports more than two-thirds of the patients as asymptomatic. For comparison: in Tyrol, it is one percent; in Carinthia, it is seven. The hospital prognoses do not necessarily sound favorable either. In the forecast for Salzburg, the utilization of regular wards in a fortnight is 129 percent, in Tyrol 117 percent, in Lower Austria 114 percent, and in Burgenland 109 percent.
Corona traffic light shines in bright red again
The wide openings in connection with the new Omicron sub-variant, which is currently taking over in Austria, make the Corona traffic light so-and-so shine bright red again. While the numbers tended to decline slightly in the past weeks, the 14-day trend is now pointing upwards again, in some cases strongly. According to the working document of the responsible commission available to the APA, the system risk at the normal stations is also on the rise.
