The mask requirement indoors will remain, as will 2G, Mayor Michael Ludwig announced Thursday afternoon. He said there would be stricter rules in hospitals, retirement, and nursing homes.

Ludwig spoke of a still dire situation, saying the pandemic had not been mastered. He also pointed to the massive number of infections, bringing failures, especially in the health sector. The situation in the hospitals is serious, he said. Ludwig called on the federal government to act quickly and reintroduce Corona protection measures – such as mandatory masks indoors.

Retargeting in hospitals and homes
Starting next week, one visitor per day is permitted in hospitals. It applies 2G plus, as recovered, tested, and with negative PCR test. In nursing homes and homes for the elderly, two visitors per resident per day will be admitted, also with 2G plus.

The city had already made it clear earlier that it would not be possible to continue the comprehensive test offer in Vienna on its own – for legal reasons. One was, however, still a different opinion than the federation. “Everything gargles” has proven its worth. It helps “to prevent human suffering,” and Ludwig said concerning workplace absences due to coronavirus infection in the economy.

The government’s abolition of almost all corona measures in Austria had been strongly criticized by Ludwig – as reported – in the run-up. Not least because of the current massive number of new infections in the country. The massive scaling back of the free tests and the relaxation of the quarantine rules were also met with anger in Vienna.

Peter Hacker, the city’s councilor for health, also criticized the federal government’s approach. Austria cannot afford to “celebrate everyday life” because of the incidences, he said on Wednesday. This is a denial of reality, he said.
