After several months, the first nationwide Corona protection rules are dropped in Germany. From this Sunday onwards, no 3G proof of being vaccinated, recovered, or tested will be required to travel by train with Deutsche Bahn, as the Infection Protection Act now stipulates. However, the obligation to wear a mask on local and long-distance public transport will continue to apply.
The legal requirement for 3G access cards in the workplace has also been lifted. In the future, companies themselves will be able to assess the risk situation and define protective measures in company hygiene concepts.
The end of these 3G rules is part of changes to the federal legal basis that the Bundestag passed on Friday with votes from the traffic light coalition. This means that the Länder will now only be able to set a few general protection requirements, for example, on masks and tests in facilities for vulnerable groups such as nursing homes and clinics.
For regional “hotspots,“ however, more far-reaching restrictions may be imposed if the state parliament determines a particularly critical corona situation. All countries still want to use a transitional period and maintain previous rules until 2 April.
